“Michael, I was delighted with your workshop. It was practical, involving, dynamic and absolutely relevant for every person there. Your enthusiasm, vigour and humour made it very easy to get on board with what you were saying. The feedback (we rated you as 8.2) confirms that we all came away with clear and immediate benefits and a plan to apply further learning. Thanks, you were brilliant!”

Mike Wilsher, Executive Group Chairman (ACE)

Dear Fellow Busy Person,

If you are looking for a powerful yet practical and interactive session for your senior executives to enjoy and benefit from, that will make a positive and long lasting difference to the way they run and manage the business, then over the next few short paragraphs I will share with you details about a workshop that will make that happen.

CEOs and Senior Executives are Under More Pressure Than Ever

You will know from your own experience that CEOs and senior executives face many pressures which is resulting in them spending more and more time at work.

A recent Institute of Directors Rewards survey confirmed this and identified these work and holiday statistics for people in this demographic:

    • 24-29% of small and medium size company directors and are working more than 55 hours per week (it is 39% in large companies)

    • Around half of directors of all size companies work 46-54 hours per week

    • Approximately one third of directors do not take their full holiday entitlement

At about the same time that the IOD study was conducted, Vistage (formerly TEC International) carried out their own study on work life balance and discovered the following:

    • One in five respondents revealed they spend too much time working “in” the business.

    • 83% said an improved balance of life would make them happier – and more than a third believed it would boost the company’s success and make them a better leader.

    • Over a third said a balance would reduce stress levels.

    • Two thirds said they felt their family life had suffered through their workload.

I am sure you don’t need me to fire statistics and surveys at you to prove the point that the people running your organisation would welcome extra time.

Why Do These Successful Men and Women Let Their Work/Life Balance Tilt the Wrong Way ?

So why do many of these business leaders work too many hours and possibly let that crucial balance of work and life tip the wrong way?

Well there are many reasons it could be but here are just a few that it might be:

    • They are too close to their elephant to be able to see their wood from their trees (apologies for combining metaphors there)

    • They have work habits and patterns of professional behaviour that whilst effective in the past may not be as useful in today’s business environment

    • They don’t believe that time availability outside work requirements is possible for their particular set of circumstances

    • There is knowledge about creating and releasing that time which they just do not have

Based on my experience of working with similar groups of people at this level across a number of different organisations I believe that it is possible for anyone to release time from their schedule to use as they see fit.

An Answer? The Hour a Day Workshop...

Over the last 12 months I have developed and successfully delivered a session to CEOs and Senior Executives that I now call my “Hour a Day Workshop – How You Can Release an Hour a Day, Every Day”.

I originally started with a workshop just aimed at improving reading speed and information management skills to deal primarily with information overwhelm – a problem that faces every professional person, particularly those at the top of their organisations.

What I discovered was this was only part of the answer and that there were other skills and strategies required to help release more time.

By re-assessing the needs of the CEOs and senior executives and as a result of consulting closer with people at this level, the “Hour a Day Workshop” emerged from the ashes of the original concept.

I am rather pleased to be able to tell you that as a result of the revised workshop I was voted The Academy of Chief Executives Best New Speaker for 2007. Below you will see a picture of me receiving my award from Brian Chernett, Executive Chairman of the Academy of Chief Executives watched by Phil Jesson, head of Speaker Development and himself an Academy Group Chairman.

I have since gone on to successfully run that programme with other CEO development groups from different organisations.

"I enjoyed Michael's session and so did our members. You could see light bulbs coming on around the room as each person realised how they could make themselves more time each month, week and year by implementing his practical solutions."

Alex Arnot, Co-founder Elite

The objective of this workshop is very simple. It is to show your senior executives how they can practically release an hour a day, every day.

Anyone Can Release an Hour a Day From Their Busy Schedule

I call it the “Hour a Day Workshop” but there is no reason why someone might not choose an afternoon a week, 2 days a month or even 3 weeks a year – they are all the same and I do give the group the option to choose.

Let me clear up a couple of things here - this is not a conventional time management course, nor is it a personal effectiveness workshop.

Whilst some of what is covered could be given those labels, this session covers simple and easy to implement, yet extremely powerful practical measures that you will be able to use and apply immediately. And the emphasis is on simplicity and practicality.

In essence your senior executives will discover what they can STOP doing, what they can START doing and what they can do DIFFERENTLY that will release that time for them.

How to do this will be revealed to your people during the half day workshop in 3 very distinct phases:

Phase 1 focuses on which is the time frame that appeals to them the most and what they will do with it. We also begin looking at the things they can STOP doing at this point to help release that time.

Phase 2 looks at the sheer volume of information that they have to deal with and introduces them to a powerful filtering strategy that turns the conventional logic of “reading” on its head so that they can cut their volume of reading by 80-90%. This is where they start to do things DIFFERENTLY to help find that hour.

Phase 3 is a show and tell. For them to have got where they are today there are things they already do that are time saving devices for them. It is here they share at least one of those with the rest of the group. If they and their colleagues share just one thing each that saves them 10 minutes a day then we only need 6 of those ideas to find that previously elusive hour. It is here that they will discover new things they can START doing to release that time

This last phase is where the power of networking within your organisation really comes into its own. Your senior executives will be learning and benefitting from the vast accumulative experience of their colleagues.

They will also be doing it in an environment that is designed for optimum learning and development. Based on my experience of personally working with tens of thousands of people and having designed programmes delivered to over half a million, this workshop has been structured so that it is:

  • Interactive

  • Engaging

  • Practical
  • Participative

  • Beneficial

  • Enjoyable

This workshop is designed to be run in-house with between 8 and 12 senior staff and usually runs from 9.00am to 1.00pm.

“Your understanding of the group's needs was impressive, your tailoring and preparation was excellent, your content was very "real" with lots of practical tips and takeaways and your rapport and use of humour was a masterclass in itself. You have great talent and I am confident that The Academy for Chief Executives will be back for more in the months and years ahead!

Phil Jesson Executive Group Chairman (ACE)

Long Term Sustainable Results Will be Supported By Additional Multimedia Resources

Not only that, I am committed to helping you make the benefits of the Hour a Day Workshop long-lasting for the people you decide should experience this workshop and so in addition to the basic workshop you will get these enhancements:

Pre-event scene setting video to begin to focus your group membership on the session objectives so they are primed before the event allowing them to get even more value from the workshop. Click here to watch this now.
An Hour A Day Workshop Manual for each member

A 7 module follow up email course to help them embed what they have learnt and make the benefits of the workshop long-lasting (Value £97 per person).

This consists of 7 short videos together with written material and downloadable worksheets delivered over a 3 week period. This not only reviews the key points from the workshop but also introduces new concepts to help them find the hour a day.

A free copy of “Find Time, Create Balance – Executive Time Saving Tips from Successful CEOs” – an hour long collection of interviews with successful CEOs sharing simple and practical ideas to help release more time (Value £27.00 per person).

1 year’s free membership to my “Find Time, Create Balance” video newsletter – weekly nuggets to free up even more time and unleash even more productivity (Value £127.00 per person).

Each nugget must be an easy to apply, practical tip that saves time and takes a minute or less to explain.

Each of these enhancements is designed to supplement the face to face contact and ensure the lessons of the interactive workshop are not forgotten, but are implemented immediately and then conditioned to create a habit. That way the simple application of some simple ideas built up over a relatively short period of time will ensure that each person will achieve the previously elusive "Hour a Day".

I trust that explains what your chosen senior executives will experience both before, during and after the “Hour a Day Workshop”.

PS Here are some comments that have just come in from senior executives who attended one of the most recent courses. They are unedited so please forgive any typographical errors.

"Practical ideas- such as only being available for staff Qs as certain times, it also got me thinking about how i delegate tasks and responsibilities to free up more of my time. Atually, it's got me talking to my partners about our future goals- i.e. spending 3 months of the year aomewhere sunny! From an immediate business perspective, I've already freed up an afternoon per week for strategy meeings".
Darren Hall

"The interaction was very good. I think at the beginning of the course, to have asked the delegates how many hours they were working, and then establishing that working daft hours is not productive and causes undue stress could have been useful. Also another good eye opener for individuals who work daft hours, is to calculate their basic salary against the hours worked and then pro-rata this down to a normal 35 - 40 hour week, and yuo will find that Senior people are not actually earning as much as they think they are".Pip Sanford

"Very practical insight into releasing more time from my day. Very well delivered."
James Melody

"Concise & to the point" Derek Brown

"A very interactive session, delivered in an informative and fun way. Thanks" Scott Carter
